Biography
Raul Mattasi studied Medicine in the University of Santiago de Chile and in the University of Milan, where he specializes in vascular surgery. The teacher of the specialization school was prof. Edmondo Malan, one of the main pioneers in the treatment of vascular malformation. Dr Mattassi was then active in vascular surgery in the hospital of Garbagnate Milanese. During that period he did intensive training in the approach to vascular malformations with some of the main international experts in that field, like prof Stefan Belov (Bulgaria), Wayne Yakes (USA), Geza Tasnadi (Hungary), Dirk Loose (Germany) In 1992 he founded a pioneer center dedicated to vascular malformations in his hospital From 1997 to 2010 he was Director of the Department of Vascular Surgery in the hospital of Garbagnate Milanese in Milan, Italy In 2010 he moved to Humanitas "Mater Domini" Hospital in Castellanza (Varese) where he was exclusively dedicated to treat vascular malformations, founding a multidisciplinary dedicated to these diseases, named "Stefan Belov" in honour of one of his teachers. He has performed over 5000 treatments of vascular malformations. Dr Mattassi is co-founder of the Italian Society of Vascular Malformations (SISAV) For 10 years he was in the board of the International Society of Vascular Anomalies (ISSVA) He is the author of the following publications dedicated to vascular anomalies (beside many others of vascular arguments):
